Thursday, April 30, 2009, 05:36 PM CST [General]

Today on Fox Strategy Room it was said the cash 4 clunker bill, currently in the Senate is being debated as hotly as anything presently being discussed..

$4,000-$5,000 incentive to get gas guzzlers off the road.

Guest in opposition said the Pollution of the US is well under any limits set by anybody and this was driven by New model lobbyists to sell and bailout the automakers.

Just wait and we will be ridiculed for driving our old machines.  The day is coming.

Ethanol to increase to 15% EPA seeks comments

Wednesday, April 22, 2009, 09:26 AM CST [General]

EPA is being petitioned to increase the amount of Ethanol in gasoline.
54 producers have saturated the 10% level and have over supply. New limt sought is 15%. We do not want this to happen. The greed and corruption of last years gas station fiasco will only get worse. Mileages will decrease and runability costs will increase for older cars. They(Stations) add more water to the gas, for example.

Around the world in a '58 VW Panel Bus

Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 10:47 AM CST [General]

I have these friends I met last year during  The Great Race and they just left for Panama today from my house, in Norman, OKlahoma.  They have covered 30,000 miles already.    Pat and Ali Schulte at   www.bumfuzzle.com  are shipping the bus to South Africa and driving the East Coast up to Europe.

We spent the last couple of days getting the rear brake drum off to fix the leaking wheel cylinder.  It had to be cut off.  The expert VW guys at Larry's VW repair shop in OKC, OK dropped everything to help them out.  They even had a replacement 58 brake drum right there.

They update their website every couple of days.  You may be on their route?  Send them an email.

    Cars that went to ebay

Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 09:50 PM CST [General]

Personally I thought twice about writing this one.  But if it will give one guy an opportunity to find out what greed will do, read on.  I have recently sold a Porsche 911 and totally knew everything about the car that was possible.  I owned it for several years,  fixed some stuff. enjoyed it and sold it for more than I had in it as it had appreciated.  Still about 5 thousand below what the current market value is.  It shows up on ebay, no problem with that.  The seller claims he knows things he doesn't and has parts original to the car,  which he does not.  I go to real lengths to find out the history and he butchers it and fabricates things for a Huge profit.  Really in short he is doing the hobby a dis-service to the honest people doing good things restoring cars.  Profit is OK,  I made a profit.  But BSing to get it is another.

A friend sold his 356 to a lady and she had no clue what the car was about.  He was going to buy it back when she put it on ebay and she lost a couple of thousand.  3 months later it shows up in Canada with a price double what she sold it for, it sold.  The car was a real 356 but was made from 3 different cars. The speedometer was not hooked up for a couple of years.  The cable was in the door pocket in one of the pictures.  I sent the guy a question on mileage and he stated it was actual, but the titles don't show that anymore.  I asked why the cable was still in the door.  I got no answer.   That was never revealed on ebay the second time and the seller claimed to have had the car for years.  Sadly someone was sold a bill of goods.  Sadly these are Porsche people,  but I am not throwing them (US) all under the VW Bus.

These are reminders that buyer beware and all that goes with it.  I still have faith in the people I deal with.  I am afraid that someone will call me in the future and say, "I have your old 911, can you tell me about it?"  You bet, hold on to your hat!

    My interesting friends

Monday, March 17, 2008, 05:29 PM CST [General]

I will start with an interesting couple I have become friends with.  They are Racing in the Great Race this year from Ny to Paris.  The 356 Porsche returns to compete this year.

Last year they won the Rookie class, having never competed and Ali, had not driven in over 4 years, so she said.  They have a website, www.bumfuzzle.com  and it chronicles their around the world sailing trip,  the Race, and their new adventure in a 58 VW van,  which is going to be their next travel machine around the World.  They just made it through Mexico, but have to get ready for the race.  I will keep an update on here of their Race happennings.  They don't trailer and have no chase crew, just the 2 of them and friends along the way.
