Howdy All. I just ran across the following news story out of New Jersey. It makes me wonder what the heck was wrong with this guy? Darn SUV drivers, they should all be banned so that we have more room on the roadway for "real" cars.-Otis
SUV driver rams garage and damages 1930 car A Sparta man crashed his sport utility vehicle into a garage in Andover Township, New Jersey yesterday morning, police said. Brian Clarke, 21, barely missed hitting some schoolchildren on Limecrest Road with his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee before driving into the detached garage at about 8:20 a.m. and damaging the antique car inside it, according to Andover police. Clarke, who was not hurt in the collision, was charged with reckless driving, police said. Just before the crash, Clarke had run his SUV off Sussex Mills Road and hit a street sign there, breaking off his passenger-side mirror, according to police. Citing reports from witnesses, police said Clarke was driving south on Limecrest Road, where a school bus, with its red lights on, had stopped to pick up children. Clarke crossed lanes, drove between the children boarding the bus and the northbound shoulder, then entered a driveway and smashed through the doors of the garage just south of Pinkneyville Road. The SUV hit a 1930 Ford Model A car inside the garage. The antique automobile was extensively damaged, and its gas tank was ruptured. The fuel spill was contained by the Andover Township Fire Department. Clarke also was charged with passing a stopped school bus, driving an unsafe vehicle and failing to keep right, police said. |
