We discussed the current plight of the Big 3 in previous posts. This weekend I found a new book called "Why GM Matters" by William Holstein, apparently more a business writer rather than just automotive, I guess he writes for Business Week and other magazines. If anyone wants a good read that is very up to the minute and looks at GMs importance to the US economy this is a good one, I bought at Barnes and Noble but it should be available everywhere. I readily criticize the automakers for bad decisions, especially on product and marketing. Don't get me started again on GMs marketing (non)strategy that broke down 70 years of branding of the divisions, which I am still convinced was one of the key problems leading up to now. But anyone on CNBC or wherever that says GM and Chrysler should just go bankrupt do not know enough about the car business or it's footprint, and the blowhard Congresspersons grilling the CEOs REALLY don't know anything about it.
