Famed Daytona coupe could crack $10 million mark!

One of the "Holy Grail" cars of American racing history — an ultra-rare 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra coupe with a championship racing heritage — could soon make history again by setting a new record for an American car at auction. Speculation is that bidding could soar as high as $10 million, which would be an auction record for an American-made car.  The ultra-rare Daytona coupe will be sold live on national television May 15 during the "Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars & More" series on Discovery Communications' HD Theater.

What do you think? Is this car really worth EIGHT Figures?

Wow, that is quite a car. However, I doubt that it will break any records due to the fact that the economy is in such bad shape world wide. My only hope is that this car stays here in the states. While I understand the desire to always sell to whoever has the most money, it would be nice if this one could make a few appearances at shows that a guy like me could possibly attend.

Awww, come on guys. I can't believe that this car will bring over $3 million. I don't think that the economy will play much of a roll in the top bid though. It seems like the guys with the big money always seem to be able to scrape up a little more when they set their sights on a new toy.

Does this car not remind you of an even greater automotive icon -- the fire-breathing, pavement-eating, chick-impressing, American badass Pinto?

Me thinks it does. The lines are so strikingly similar, it cannot possibly be a coincidence.

$8 million tops on the Daytona coupe. That's my prediction, but since they never, ever change hands, I have nothing to base that on. Some of the racing Ferarris have gotten up in that rair air in recent years, and I'll predict this particular Daytona coupe will, too.

That's pretty good Pinto Man, of course another way to look at it is the Pinto must be better because a million people bought one and the Daytona Coupe could not even attract 10 buyers, right?

Ahhh, the infamous Cobra Coupes, later named the "Daytona Coupe"

Wonder what serial number this one is; 2300, 2286, 2287, 2299, 2601 or 2602???

Number 2287 was the first one out to go kick everybodies azz !!!!

This is also the car that Phil Spector, (record producer) had that ended up with his ex spouse,

she burned herself alive with her pet rabbit in later years !!!!

The Cobra Coupes paraphrased Shelby's qoute, Ferrari's azz is mine !!!!!

Some of the greatest legends were tied to these cars, Dan Gurney, Bob Bondurant, Ken Miles,

Peter Brock, Phil Remington and more.

A good friend of mine owned one of the originals, he vintage raced it, he also owns

Mario Andretti's GT 40 !!!!!

THE GREATEST times in automobile racing for World Titles, with the cars that brought THE U.S.

ITS FIRST AND ONLY WORLD MANUFACTURER'S CHAMPIONSHIP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Ummmm, where was Chevrolet??? ha

Till the next time,

I can't believe all the morons out there who keep inflating the "worth" of these vehicles. The media and moneymen’s rampant speculation continue to overinflate the actual value of these cars at the whim of the auction companies. They send out a press release touting the latest sale queen and we follow along like willing sheep. These cars were roughly built, race-prepared machines, not intended to last more than the next race (or season). The same rampant speculation that led us into our current world economic debacle is also behind the massive run-up in the prices paid for 30, 40 and 50-year-old vehicles. Appreciate vintage cars and the rarest of the rare racers for what they are, but you have to wonder about the moral priorities of people who will spend $5 to $10 million for cars to keep stashed away in their pampered stable only to come out in five more years to sell at auction again. I've got a handful of vintage cars that I work on, enjoy and drive whenever the heck I want ... value, cost of insurance and public opinion be damned. My only hope is that this car ends up in the hands of a true blue Ford fan (who won the lottery) and they fire it up in the parking lot and drive it home (maybe even ... gasp ... in the rain).

Ten Million?  Too much money, too little brains.   I have neither.  I have owned a couple Pintos though.
