Ok, guys and gals, I now believe that I have heard everything. A topless Tucker? Give me a break. I have seen a few topless Tanyas and even a topless Tina once (don't tell my wife!), but I am having a really hard time believing that there was a convertible Tucker built. Back in the day Preston Tucker was under way too much heat from the big auto makers and the feds to even consider slaping together a car for his beloved wife or as a prototype...heck, weren't they all prototypes! I think that it is totally possible. I have heard that there was a convertible Tucker parked in somebody's garage for years now and always wanted to hear more about it. As far as I am concerned, this is an incredibly important find. Heck, I wish I had found it myself...although I don't think that I would have the money to have bought it even if I had been the one to find it. Any idea on what this thing is worth...now, and when it is totally restored? |

I'm with you Otis--skeptical. I had not heard about this until the OCW blurb, and went to the Tucker Club website to see the heated discussion there. The problem with authenticating this is, as Otis said, Tuckers were essentially all hand assembled and not far beyond prototypes themselves. If the convertible shows up with a mishmash of parts and pieces from other early 1940's cars, who can say if they were assembled in 2008 or 1948? OR is it even relevant, in these days of "tribute" and "clone" cars that people willingly buy and sell for big bucks? I will be interested to see what happens.

I am scepticle that Preston Tucker had the opportunity to start this project. More likely, someone bought parts at auction, and started building their "Dream Car". Once started, they lose interest, or funding, and resell at auction. After the car changes hands three or four times, the Tucker Convertible is born. Having said that, I would still like more information about the special frame that this car has. I think that the Tucker Convertible is a great project reguardless of authenticity. |

SEEMS TO BE QUITE A BIT OF CONFUSION ON THIS CAR !!! WE SPENT HUNDREDS OF HOURS RESEARCHING IT TO FORM A CONCLUSION. A PERSON MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT THE TUCKER CLUBS FORUMS AND READ ABOUT IT.
