'49 flathead with a stock 5 speed?

Does anyone know what kind of 5 speed came behind a flathead in a 49 f3 truck?
The guy is telling me there is another lever for high gear, or something like that. He has the manual for this truck and it says the 5 speed was optional, stock was a 4 speed. Any clue what this is? Thanks |

I have never seen any information indicating that the F-3 had an option of a 5 speed, only a 4 speed. I would like to see the literature with this listed. The shop manual lists a 5 speed for the F-7 and F-8 models.
