I have what a lot of people wish they did, and that is my first car. It is a 1970 El Camino with a 350 automatic with air. It has never been wrecked, and drove fine when I parked it 15 years ago. I havent even opened the doors since. I know that it is what eveyone calls # matching because none of the drivetrain has been replaced. I've owned this since 1975 and obviously have a long list of happy memories. My problem? RUST! Mostly in the bed, ie.. the outter fender wells and floor. I know you can find quarter panels etc. but what about the outter wheel wells? I would be doing a complete frame off and new interior. My question is, Do I look for a better canadate to start with(less rust in bed) or can I find the replacement parts. Since you can find these trucks in good condition for $8.000 or so, am I just holding on to it for the memeroies or would it be worth the $$ after Im done? |

Sounds to me like you have a keeper. I just cracked open my copy of the 2009 Collector Car Price Guide and according to it, in #3 condition it should be worth around $10,500 and in #2 condition you would be looking at a value of roughly $16,500. As for me, if I knew of a good body man, I'd go the route of restoring what you have. Personally, I prefer cars...and trucks, that are as original as possible. Be sure to post some photos of your El Camino project when you have time. I'd love to see what you are working with. |

I'd suggest restoring it. From what I just read on the Internet, it looks like GM just announced that they were officially killing off the G8 ST which as you can see on the link below was the 'ol El Camino's last chance to be reborn. You can read the article HERE. |

yes - restore or replace... whatever you can do. if there are no caps and rotors to replace - restore or make! if there is a car w/o engine and none are availabe of original type... don't let the car rot and go to the crusher... put in an engine to make the car go down the road again. if the parts are there, make it happen... otherwise, you have an expensive lawn sculpture! |
