    Talk about Trunk Space!

Monday, November 10, 2008, 03:12 PM CST [General]

    Hello,

I simply couldn't let "Otis" be the only one on the OldCarsWeekly.com Community site with a funny story. I have no idea where he comes up with his stories, but I absolutely love them!

Anyway, I ran across the following story today and thought that I would share it with all of you.

I know that most cars these days don't have much to offer when it comes to trunk space, but this article proves that you can still cram an awful lot into a modern car. I have posted a photo of a car like the one mentioned in the article so you can see how cramed it really was.

Back when I was younger I can almost imagine people being able to cram a couple of pigs into the trunk of something like a 50s Packard, but 12 squealing, filthy pigs into a modern car?

    Mmmmm...Smells Like Bacon!

    I hope you enjoy,

Thieves caught in Hungary with 12 pigs in car

BUDAPEST (Reuters) – Two thieves were caught in southern Hungary with 12 pigs stuffed in their small van during a routine traffic check, Hungarian police said on Thursday.

Police stopped two men in a Renault Kangoo near the town of Szigetvar, about 220 km (137 miles) south of Budapest, as they attempted to drive off.

"The pigs weighed about 25-30 kg (55-66 lb) each -- they were really squashed into the car very tightly," a spokesman said.

Police said the pigs came from a nearby farm, where 35 pigs have gone missing in recent days. (Reporting by Krisztina Than; Editing by Catherine Bosley)

$22k in parts stolen from dealers at Fall Carlisle

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 09:51 AM CST [General]

I sure hate it when a couple of knuckleheads mess up a really good thing.

When I read the article below it just made me sick.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem at shows?

I have always been lucky myself and have never had more than a hub-cap stolen out of my booth.

Thieves stole more than $22,000 worth of items from two classic car parts dealers Thursday or Friday during the fall Carlisle Events car show at the Carlisle Fairgrounds, Carlisle police said.

They said 1960s Camaro consoles and gauges were stolen from a Chevrolet parts vendor and a Pontiac GTO grilles and headlight bezels, a carburetor, a Firebird bumper and a suspension were taken from another vendor.

    Nation's Largest Chevy Dealer Folding

Thursday, September 25, 2008, 09:50 AM CST [General]

I knew that times were tough with the current happenings in our economy, but I was surprised that the effects were already trickling down to the dealer level of the auto industry.

I ran across the following article today and was wondering if people thought that we would see more dealerships closing their doors. Did this happen back during the Great Depression in the late '20s and 30's as well? The company that is closing has been around since 1919. I guess I am just surprised that they survived the last depression but were unable to keep afloat now.

Scottsdale, AZ., Sept. 24, 2008 - According to Automotive News' Chrissie Thompson, Bill Heard Enterprises, the country's top Chevrolet dealer group, is closing the doors at all of its 13 dealerships at the end of business today, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
The company notified the stores' general managers at 2 p.m. today, the source said, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to speak.
High fuel prices, cancelled floorplanning from GMAC Financial Services, a reliance on trucks and SUVs, a soft national economy and struggles in local markets had troubled the company, which on Sept. 12 closed its store in Scottsdale, Ariz.
In the end, the company could not raise operating capital and could not finance its floorplan, the source said. Company officials have discussed closing the company since Friday, the source said.
Bill Heard Enterprises, of Columbus, Ga., ranks No. 13 on the Automotive News list of the top 125 U.S. dealership groups, with 2007 group revenue of $2.13 billion.

Classic Cars Should Be Admired From Afar

Monday, September 22, 2008, 02:38 PM CST [General]

    Hello Everybody.

I ran across an article today from some nut-job who has convinced himself that classic cars are not safe, cost way too much money and should be looked at, but not owned...and definately not driven.

Personally, I am not a big fan of "trailer queens" or "investment cars" and really don't even want to own anything that I can's slide behind the wheel of and take out for a spin!

You can read the whole article at: http://www.mcall.com/news/local/watchdog/all-5dog0921.6592257sep21,0,4055090.story

Let me know what you think.

Some People are Twisted...Even Worse Than Di's Mercedes

Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 09:55 AM CST [General]

    Greetings,

I was surfing the national internet earlier today when I ran across a story that kind of turned my stomach...and since I tip the scales at a healthy (despite what my wife and doctor say!) 400 pounds, it takes quite a bit to turn my stomach!

According to an article in The Mail, a British newspaper, the guy that owns the limo company is trying to get back the Mercedes-Benz limo that Princess Diana and her boy-toy Dodi Fayed were in when they were killed.

Apparently, this guy thinks that he can sell the car for more than $1 million dollars

Now I may be kind of old fashioned, but I find this pretty disturbing. I really don't give a hoot about the Princess or what she was doing at the time of her death, but I find it pretty disrespectful that this guy would try to make a buck off of the car by selling it to some sideshow.

Next thing you know somebody will try to sell Ted Kennedy's 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 to make a buck!

Does this bother anyone but me?
