presidential debates

    Monday, September 29, 2008, 08:00 AM [General]

’Tis the season--that would be the political season. Watched the presidential debate Friday and was bored and unimpressed . Only somewhat looking forward to the vice-presidential debate Thursday, but I'll have to decided between watching that and the Brewers!!!

Am wondering if the debates will hit on any environmental issues; especially those that relate to emissions laws and old cars. Hobbyists aren't out to ruin the earth--a few miles a few Sundays a year doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world.

    What do you think?

    1960s New Car Smell

    Monday, January 21, 2008, 08:40 AM [General]

Before heading to the auction grounds Saturday, fellow Old Cars Weekly staffer Ron Kowalke and myself visited the site of the famed-McDonald's Car show.

The show doesn't actually get underway until the evening, but by 9 a.m. the parking lot at the McDonald''s on Indian Bend Road in Scottsdale was packed with all kinds of cars.

I admired a 1963 Buick that brought back memories of cars of that era. As weired as it sounds, new car smell back then is different than new car smell of today.

It definitely had that 1960s new car smell.

These were prouud owners. Some were interested in selling, others just in sharing their passion.

I had to chuckle when one gentleman asked another if he'd had his 1973 Plymouth very long.

His answer was "everyday since 1973."
