    Clean cars ...

Monday, March 23, 2009, 09:05 PM CST [General]

    at least on the inside.

It's amazing what a couple of cans of carpet cleaner and scrubbing cab do to the inside of a vehicle after a long hard winter.

Got the Mustang and the "new" car (Explorer) gussied up inside and smelling clean. Now on to the mechanical fixes. Mustang needs a new dash pad, vlave cover gaskets (the 3.8 V6 is leaking like a sieve). Still have to do the glow plugs on the F250 diesel.

But the best news is my Fairlane 'll be home before the end of the month. Woo-hoo! A car that actually gets up and moves when I tell it to.

Well, nothing of interest on Ebay or Craigslist, so it's time to do some vegetating.

    70 degrees ... 70 DEGREES!!!!!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009, 11:31 AM CST [General]

I'm going outside now to give my rides some love. I'm excited about seeing some vintage tin on the roads this week. I expect area owners will be hitting the streets after our long-cold winter.

Gotta brush up my welding skills and bodywork (been 20 years since I did any serious body repair on my first car).

Went to the small spring swap meet in Peotone, IL on Sunday morning. Beautiful day. Grabbed up some shiny parts and a water separator for my air compressor ... NOW i'm ready for painting. I find it amazing the JUNK some folks try to pass off as valuable parts at a swap. That and all the Chevy stuff that's out there, sheesh.

Funniest thing was, I cruised down there in my old Ford diesel (just in case I found something big, ya know). ... and as we pulled in to park, what pulls in the next spot ... a twin ... 1984 Ford Extended cab, same tan two-tone. My dad and daughter make a comment before even step out. Then as I step out the driver hollers over "Want another one" ... I shout back ... "No, I was gonna ask if you wanted a spare" ... "Is that one a diesel?" ... he responded ... "Nope, just noisy" ...

    Car people are good people.

If you've got an old car, get out there and do one thing on it today. If you don't, don't worry one will find you ... that's how it usually happens for me.

Day 1, Welcome to my car spot

Saturday, March 7, 2009, 10:09 PM CST [General]

Despite the rainy, crummy weather in Illinois (again) ... I've got the car fever again and it's not even officially spring. So how did I celebrate today? I Ebayed and Craigslisted my way to a quarter panel for my mustang and some extra dash parts for our 1962 Corvair. Even bought a new in box set of shock absorbers for a Chevy vehicle I DON’T EVEN OWN! Yep, I'm addicted to cars. It's official (Hey it was too good a deal to pass up) ... I'll just sell them for a profit at the spring swaps.

    Fleet Status:

1962 Corvair: needs battery tray welded in and taillight wiring fixed (but running)

1967 Cyclone: Needs a driveline (but a roller)

1970 Fairlane: In winter storage, but ready to roll ... just got a new driver's door to paint and install

    1984 Ford F250 ... My runner/workhorse ... sniffs ether to fire up

1986 Ford Mustang Conv. .. Daily Driver running well, but leaking at the seams. Time for some more top patches.
